Doug Hoyer – Nina & Albert (Cover)

Doug Hoyer has long admired the can-rock stylings of Joel Plaskett. Here he pays tribute to one of Plaskett’s finest tunes, Nina & Albert from the 2005 album, La De Da. A good cover should reinvent the song and I believe it’s safe to say that Hoy Boy has stepped up. Attacking with Casio percussion and a git’r'done bass line, it isn’t long before his blaringly cute bike month guitar effects kick it over to the vocals. And then the Plaskett influence surfaces: the electric guitar starts doing half the singing, harmonizing with the vocals. It’s an excellent interpretation of the original, which I’ve linked below as well (unfortunately I could only find a live version).

The original: Joel Plaskett – Nina & Albert
